The cottage was built in 1835 as a hunting Lodge but was occupied by its owner until about 60 years ago, after which the forest slowly reclaimed it. Until a few months ago all you could see were the chimney tops through the trees but gentle landscaping has once again revealed this magical little place, and thoughtful restoration has maintained its rustic charm. It now offers an experience of a bygone lifestyle - but with a few modern conveniences thrown in.
It’s hard to put the atmosphere of this place into words, it radiates a certain stillness and the absence of bright modern colours and ornaments adds to the feeling that you have stepped back in time.
The cottage comfortably sleeps four people, yet it’s not too big for a romantic break and is a great retreat for anyone needing to be alone for something like a writing project. Set on its own out in woodlands and with its own hot-tub it’s certainly a good choice for a ’get away from it all’ break.
