Details of Carreg Wen
Carreg Wen in
Solva, Pembrokeshire sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms. Carreg Wen in
Solva will surely cast its spell over you, this stunning, handsome house, has absolutely fabulous panoramic coastal views across St Brides Bay to Skomer and Ramsey Islands and as far as Grassholm on a clear day, and the fabulous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is 400 yards away. The property recently featured in the Times Newspaper as among the 14 Best Holiday Cottages in the UK. This spacious luxury holiday home has been created from a former 18th century Pembrokeshire malt house, once part of Llanunwas, a 400-year-old cliff top gentleman’s estate. Lots of original exterior features have been retained including two flights of stone steps, a ’goose hole’ and dovecots.
Set down a woodland drive on the edge of Solva, Carreg Wen is very stylishly furnished with an eclectic mix of antique and modern pieces and original art work. The open plan living space on the ground floor has a Welsh slate floor throughout, a luxury galley style kitchen and a living area with wood burner overlooked by a galleried landing with Welsh dresser, antique settle and Bose Air wave audio system (plays CD’s, iPods/iPhones and radio). Opening out from the dining area is a small sun room with doors out onto the rear garden overlooking the bay, great for sun downers.
Solva village with its quaint picturesque harbour and small beach has lots to enjoy, fish for crabs from the harbour at high tide or rock-pool and paddle on the beach at low tide or take a boat trip around the harbour. There is an annual summer Regatta and lots of water sports, diving, kayaking and dinghy sailing, learn to row or raft build, hire a skiffle boat or a ’wheelipunt’, the traditional harbour dingy, from the Solva Sailing School. There are two art galleries and a pottery to enjoy as well as a range of traditional shops including a post office/general stores, cafés and pubs. The 16th century village pub serves great food, while along the harbour you can find homemade cakes and ice-cream and the café by the river has great snacks and wonderful fish and chips. The cosy local pub is pet friendly with pleasant garden, serving good food in a warm and convivial atmosphere.
