The Pincushion in Stourpaine, near Blandford Forum sleeps 6 people in 3 bedrooms. The Pincushion near Blandford Forum a quaint, thatched, 18th-century period home, one of a pair, stands peacefully within the delightful village of Stourpaine, which has a friendly local pub, village shop and playing fields, all with a great community feel. It straddles two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs, excellent for keen walkers.
Offering an abundance of charm and character, The Pincushion is a picture postcard holiday home, with many beams and odd nooks and crannies from its former life as two cottages. A staircase leads to the first floor landing serving double and master bedrooms. A second staircase leads to a twin bedroom on the top floor.
Outside, the garden has a seating area and barbecue to the rear of the lawned area and guests are welcome to use the herbs in the garden too. At the end of the garden you can see the local village church.
This quaint setting is close to
Hod Hill (National Trust), where the D-shaped Roman fort stands, and where the Romans may have first tested their ballista (catapult). The village holds its origins in the Saxon period, and the pretty church is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The extensive walks, accessed almost from the door, take in magnificent views over Blackmore Vale, popular with ramblers along the Wessex Ridgeway, Jubilee Trail and Stour Valley Way. Nearby is Hambledon Hill, a fabulous hill fort with amazing views. Enjoy a trip, cycling or walking along the former Somerset and Dorset steam railway (also known as the ’old Soot and Dust’), where it used to chug its way along part of the route from Poole to Bristol. The nearest active steam railway is at
Swanage.
Fishing can be enjoyed on the nearby River Stour, as well as sea fishing at Holes Bay near
Poole. Excellent walking, cycling and wildlife are available locally. This super cottage is an ideal quiet retreat for those wishing to both relax or explore the area. Blandford Forum is about 3 miles distant, and places to visit include Stourhead House and Garden, Kingston Lacey, Sherborne Castle and Bovington Tank Museum. Bournemouth, Poole, Sandbanks and Studland Bay are within 30-45 minutes drive, and within easy reach are the cathedral city of Salisbury, Winchester, The New Forest and
Christchurch harbour. There is a shop, pub and a restaurant 175 yards from The Pincushion near Blandford Forum.
