Details of Swans Nest
Swan’s Nest in Near Coldstream, Scottish Borders sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms. Swan’s Nest near
Coldstream is a period property built in the ’Savoyard’ style by the late Mrs Hotham of Milne Graden. Austrian by birth, a little of her home town was brought to the Scottish Borders. Beautifully furnished and decorated, this delightful, cosy cottage is just perfect for a restful holiday on the banks of the glorious River Tweed and yet with very easy access to the Northumbrian coast, Edinburgh and Newcastle. This charming semi-detached cottage sits within a small cluster of the holiday cottages of Sunnyside on the private estate of Milne Graden, all of which enjoy direct access and stunning views of the River Tweed. Meticulous attention has been paid to creating a perfect holiday home with stylish soft furnishings, a welcoming open fire and comfortable beds with beautifully presented linen. David Milne-Home, landowner, meteorologist, a Scottish advocate and geologist was an early owner of the estate. He was the President of the Edinburgh Geological Society for 15 years which is the longest tenure in the history of the society.
Your canine companion is equally welcome with a doggy treat bag and the use of the ’tails of the Tweed dog park’ within the sheltered, walled Victorian garden. Here, your dog can be happily off the lead to race around over the dog agility obstacles and play with the toys provided. There are a number of mapped walking routes throughout the estate and a myriad of activities in the area, from quietly strolling through the ancient border abbeys, to boat trips to the
Farne Islands from
Seahouses or over the tidal causeway to Holy Island, 22 miles. The area is blessed with excellent independent shops, restaurants and intriguing arts and crafts galleries. Edinburgh and Newcastle are both around 40 minutes away by train from Berwick-upon-Tweed, 12 miles. A shop, pub and restaurant are all 5 miles from Swan’s Nest near
