Details of Shepherds Rest
Shepherds Rest in Milton, near Wells sleeps 4 people in 2 bedrooms. Shepherds Rest near Wells; as its name suggest, Shepherd’s Rest is a perfect resting place for exploring the local area of Somerset and the close by medieval city of Wells, nestled in the heart of the Mendip Hills. This semi-detached house is located on a secluded working farm, next to the owner’s home, with great countryside views, yet close enough to explore the major tourist attractions close by. A fantastic place for leaving the car behind and exploring the local area by foot straight from the farm.
Located along the ‘Strawberry Line’, a traffic free route from the Mendips to the sea, perfect for cyclists and walkers. The
Cheddar Valley Line, which ran from Yatton railway station through to Cheddar and Wells, became known as the “Strawberry Line” because of the volume of locally grown strawberries that it carried to London markets. The West Mendips Way, a 30 mile route across the southern edge of the Mendip escarpment from Wells, Somerset to the sea at Uphill visiting Wookey Hole, Draycott, Priddy,
Cheddar, Shipham, Wavering Down, Loxton and Bleadon Hill, is nearby. Split Rock is close by, and is a disused quarry offering some excellent abseiling and climbing, which is considered to be one of the best quarries in the south west. Arthur’s Point is also another area very close to Shepherd’s Rest, where legend has it, King Arthur stood to watch over the enemy.
Wells is a compact and beautiful medieval city, and its architecture is what makes this city so charming. Stroll along the quaint, cobbled streets to Wells Market Place, where you’ll discover a twice weekly market selling a range of local goods and souvenirs. Shepherd’s Rest is perfectly poised to explore the surrounding area - Cheddar Gorge is nearby and the caves of Wookey Hole await; you’re also just a short drive from
Glastonbury Abbey. The nearby Mendip Hills are not only an ideal spot for avid walkers, but also offer opportunities for cycling, horse riding, abseiling and caving. A shop, pub and restaurant are all 1 mile from Shepherds Rest near
