Details of Pollywiggle Cottage
Pollywiggle Cottage in West Raynham, near
Fakenham sleeps 5 people. Pollywiggle Cottage near Fakenham is the sort of house that just gives visitors a hug as they walk through the door. Once the owner’s much loved home and named after the Norfolk word for the tadpoles that can be found in the pond in the garden, it is the perfect choice for discerning guests looking for a traditional getaway in the heart of North Norfolk. The original part of the house dates back to around 1750, when the property was two farm workers cottages that were owned by Turnip Townshend, a key figure in the Agricultural Revolution who is known for the four crop rotation plan. They were part of the Holkham Estate and latterly, the Raynham Estates and are literally steeped in history. While maintaining many original features, Pollywiggle has been beautifully furnished to provide a high level of comfort, along with everything a discerning guest could need for a great stay. Just 25 minutes from the pretty seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea, yet in a quiet and secluded location, what better base could be found to relax in, unwind and from which to explore all that the area has to offer? Wells is famous for its picturesque quay, narrow gauge railway, taking passengers to its beautiful beach, and its North Norfolk Railway. It also has a great mix of traditional and artisan shops, cafes and restaurants to explore and is a great place to spend a day or two. Also within easy reach, guests can explore the seaside towns of
Hunstanton, Sheringham and
Cromer, along with numerous seaside villages dotted in between. National Trust properties and stately homes can be found in abundance including the
Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall and Blickling Hall. The Thursford Collection is close by too and, for guests visiting in November and December, the Thursford Christmas Spectacular is not to be missed. With Norfolk recently being described as ‘The Bird Watching Capital of England’, bird watchers will be spoilt for choice, as will walkers and cyclists, not least of all because Pollywiggle Cottage provides a boot room and sheltered bicycle racks. In fact, the area is teeming with things to do for the young and the mature and what better way to end the day than in the lovely Pollywiggle Cottage garden, perhaps with a glass of wine. The nearest shop is 2 miles, with the pub and restaurant 3 miles from Pollywiggle Cottage near Fakenham.
