Details of Fisherman's Bothy
Fisherman’s Bothy in Lunan Bay sleeps 2 people in 1 bedroom. Fisherman’s Bothy in Lunan Bay a detached former fisherman’s bothy is one of a small group of houses in a wonderful seaside location with the stunning beach of Lunan Bay literally just yards away. In its own garden, the house is sheltered by sandy dunes where just beyond is the magnificent crescent of sand which makes up Lunan Bay, one of the best beaches in Scotland.
Quaint and quirky, this is simply furnished, and the perfect choice to rest and recharge away from life’s modern hassles, with a comfortable lounge and kitchen open plan to each other and a separate bedroom and bathroom with a shower over the bath. The wood burning stove adds further to the cosy atmosphere where you can relax in comfort after a day out walking or taking in the sea air. Please note there is no television but there is very good Wi-Fi, so you can bring your laptop if you want to watch your favourite programmes. The atmosphere of the cottage really lends itself to peace and quiet, whether reading by the cosy wood burner or enjoying a drink outside after an exhilarating walk.
The beach is popular with surfers and horse riders, and traditional fishing still takes place here, with nets strung from poles on the beach to trap fish in the falling tide. The Lunan Water meanders onto the beach and nearby, high on a grassy bluff overlooking the river and bay are the ruins of Red Castle, built in the 1200s for King William of Scotland. A perfectly placed diner offers fine locally produced food and is great for breakfast or snacks after a spell on the beach. Further afield but still within easy reach, the towns of
Montrose and
Arbroath are well worth a visit, while the Angus Glens offer miles of walking in peace and quiet in total contrast to the beach scenery. A pub is 60 yards from Fisherman’s Bothy in Lunan Bay. The nearest restaurant is 60 yards from Fisherman’s Bothy. The beach is 200 yards.
For a total switch-off, this is a perfect traditional bothy. Simple but comfortably furnished in the most marvellous location, with a fabulous beach a very short walk away over the dunes.. All on the ground floor.
