Details of Ffynnon Beuno - Hicks Hut
Hick’s Hut in Tremerchion, North Wales Borders sleeps 2 people in 1 bedroom. Hick’s Hut in Tremerchion; named after the Victorian doctor and geologist Henry Hicks, who first excavated the famous Ffynnon Bueno caves in 1886. This cave dating back to 47000 years BC, has produced bones from woolly mammoth, rhino, hyena jaws and early flint tools, and is one of only three sites in Britain to contain artefacts from both Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens.
This hand-built Romani caravan is set in its own wildflower meadow with the babbling Bueno brook running alongside, the setting is so romantic, there have been three marriage proposals, so far. The en-suite hut features shower, WC and hand basin boasting fluffy towels, and comfortable double bed with luxury bedding and alpaca wool blankets. It is fully solar powered and heated by its own wood burning stove. The TV is just for playing DVDs and a Bluetooth speaker can be requested. The adjacent specially commissioned adapted chicken coop is now a fully equipped catering facility benefitting from gas stove, cutlery, crockery, pots, and pans.
For those looking to taste some of the local produce, hampers can be purchased on site. Try a barbeque using cute bucket barbeque filled with charcoal made by Ffynnon Beuno from their hedgerow and woodland management program with locally sourced sausages, burgers, chicken drumsticks and salad accompaniments or you can choose a breakfast hamper containing everything you need to create a fabulous Welsh breakfast in your hut. If you are celebrating a special occasion let the owners know and they will provide a celebration hamper for you to purchase and enjoy. Please note that as the huts are run on solar powered 12 volt electricity, no mains equipment will work in them, as they are a low carbon footprint set up.
Situated in the Clwydian range, an area of outstanding natural beauty, Ffynnon Bueno is a paradise for cyclists, walkers, and riders. Those enjoying the Offas Dyke pathway can start or finish their walk with a stay here at Hick’s hut. Just a short drive will take you to the city of St Asaph and market towns of
