One of the bungalow’s greatest features must be its location – the nearest beach is just 1.5 miles away, about a 20-minute walk, or just 10 minutes in the other direction, the village of Niton has some charming shops, pubs serving fine food, and a picture-perfect church. For those willing to go further afield, the area is renowned for its scenic walks, and with over 500 miles of connecting footpaths, including 68 miles of coastal paths, you’ll be spoilt for choice on where to start!
There are many noteworthy attractions in the vicinity. For instance, the octagonal tower St. Catherine’s Oratory is nearby, and for a nice tipple at the end of the day, Buddle Inn is a renowned 16th century historic smugglers’ pub. There’s fun for the whole family at Blackgang Chione, the UK’s oldest amusement park, with feature rides, life-sized dinosaurs, pirate ships, fairy village and much more. The 17th century working mill, Calbourne Mill, is well worth a visit, as is
Osborne House and Gardens, the holiday home of Queen Victoria. However, just 16 miles away is perhaps the most popular landmark on the island: the natural rock formation known as The Needles, at Alum Bay.
The island can be explored from the open-top buses, which stop regularly at various points of interest around the island. There are also vineyards, museums, Carisbrooke Castle, farms and wildlife centres to explore, or for outdoor enthusiasts, there are water sports, cycling, riding, sailing, fishing and golf.
