Details of Brook Cottage
Brook Cottage in Erlestoke, near
Devizes sleeps 7 people. This charming, detached, holiday cottage dates back to 1650 and has retained a wealth of original character, with beams and an inglenook fireplace with inset woodburner. It lies in the centre of the picturesque village of Erlestoke, on the northern edge of
Salisbury Plain, ideal for walkers and cyclists. There is an 18-hole championship golf course on the edge of the village which is open to visitors. There are many nearby attractions including the iconic
Stonehenge, and Wiltshire’s other stone circle, Avebury, both forming part of the World Heritage Site. Walk amongst Avebury’s stone circle, see the largest man-made mound in Europe, Silbury Hill, and explore the West Kennett Long Barrow. Wiltshire is renowned for its crop circles which generally appear from April to September across the county, and also for its chalk hills and carvings. The historic market town of Devizes is worth a visit, with the Caen Hill flight of 29 consecutive locks on the Kennet and Avon canal, and Salisbury with its early gothic cathedral with the tallest spire in England. Step back in time in the beautiful village of Lacock with medieval abbey and quintessentially English houses and streets. Much of the village has been used in filming with the likes of ’Cranford’, ’Pride and Prejudice’ and even ’Harry Potter’ being filmed here. Marlborough is worth a visit, with the widest high street in Britain, a lively weekly market and many individual shops. The city of
Bath is within an hour’s drive, with a wealth of Georgian architecture, Roman spa baths, shopping and lively cultural scene. There are a few restaurants within approximately 2 miles, the nearest being at Erlestoke golf course, ½ mile away. Shop 1½ miles, restaurant ½ mile.
