Details of 2 Priory Manor
2 Priory Manor in
Windermere sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms. 2 Priory Manor in Windermere; priory Manor is a Grade II listed, Victorian Gothic, ’Gentleman’s Residence’ built c.1869. The building was extended and converted into a hotel in the 1970’s, but over-expanded, fell into administration and was converted to seven residential apartments in the late 1980’s. The properties share use of gardens at the rear which also enjoy access to the lake via a shared jetty found at the end of a path.
2 Priory Manor is a three floor section of the original manor house at the rear/lakeside of the property. It consists of four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large living room, dining room and a small kitchen. There is also a large patio which gets the sun from around midday to sunset. The entrance door leads to the dining room, with a coat cupboard to the left and shoe racks to the right as you enter. The dining table seats eight people comfortably and a maximum of ten. As you move through the property you come to the living room with its wood panelled walls, ornate ceilings and a view of the lake. There are three sofas, an electric stove, TV and card table.
Moving up the wide, feature staircase you come across the master bedroom which boats a stunning, oak four poster bed and enjoys excellent views of the lake and mountains. The en-suite bathroom has a cast iron bath, again with lake views, so you can soak those weary feet whilst enjoying spectacular views of
Windermere. Moving along the landing, beneath the cathedral ceiling, you come to the second bedroom with bunk beds and an en-suite shower room. The remaining rooms are located in the basement level, which was originally the manor’s snooker room but now comprises a further bathroom and two additional bedrooms, a twin room which is sectioned off from a double room via an oak screen. There are unique pieces of furniture collected from around the world throughout the property adding further interest to this impressive house.
You might not get around to leaving the house but if you do, be rest assured there is plenty to do in the local area. Windermere itself is a beautiful village with a nice selection of independent shops, galleries, cafés, pubs and restaurants so you may not even want to explore any further but for those that do, within a 1-mile walk you can find yourself in Bowness-on-Windermere which offers an even greater selection of independent shops and bars. It is also home to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, then of course you arrive at one of the focal points of Lake Windermere itself, which offers ferries to other areas and attractions around the lake itself, including the Lakes Aquarium,
Hill Top House of Beatrix Potter and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. If you enjoy water sports then you can choose to hire everything from motorboats, canoes, kayaks or paddle boards. With Michelin starred restaurants, to cinemas and theatres, stately homes and of course some of the most stunning scenery on the planet, there is sure to be something for everyone in the Lakes.
