Swallow Barn (UK6268) - sleeps 4
Swallow Barn in Geufron, near Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys sleeps 4 people. Swallow Barn near Llanwrtyd Wells is a characterful cottage with wonderful views. Swallow Barn, adjacent to the owner’s home on a working farm, is a charming detached cottage with exposed stone and beams, and is situated in the stunning countryside just over a mile from Britain’s smallest town, Llanwrtyd Wells. As the name suggests, swallows can be seen flying around all summer long and they’re not the only wildlife in this rural idyll. Red kites and buzzards soar in the skies, ducks paddle on the pond and the neighbouring fields are home to sheep and grazing cattle. Situated on a bridleway with great access for walks; the barn is reached via a long, uneven farm track, and was converted from a cow shed dating back to 1860. The stall props are still in situ and the old hayloft is now a charming mezzanine overlooking the living room, which leads to the double en-suite bedroom. The kitchen has an electric Rayburn for a real country feel and the living room has that all important wood burner for cosy nights in. The addition of a delightful conservatory/games room with pool table and table tennis will keep everyone entertained, but when you want to sit and eat al fresco you’ll also find a delightful covered and enclosed barbecue area with a chiminea.
Llanwrtyd Wells lies at the heart of one of the largest remaining great wilderness areas in Great Britain, one of the recognised gateways into the Cambrian region and positioned bang slap in the centre of Wales, making it the perfect base for exploration and relaxation. For a small town Llanwrtyd Wells has a lot going on and a massive amount of charm. The town became a popular Victorian spa town and location, to ‘take the waters’, due to the numerous mineral springs in the ancient volcanic area - an activity nowadays that would only suit the hardiest and most adventurous visitor! Explore the plethora of places including Builth Wells, Llandovery, the reservoirs of the Elan Valley and Llyn Brianne or the breathtaking Abergwesyn mountain pass as well as the Brecon Beacons. But don’t be in too much of a rush to leave the town; throughout the year it plays host to a variety of local festivals and unusual events including the Man vs Horse Marathon, World Bog Snorkelling Championships, Red Kite Bash and Cider Cycle, Real Ale Wobble, Drovers Walks and the Welsh Open Stone Skimming Championships to name but a few. Why not come and discover this area rich in heritage and natural beauty and make Swallow Barn your base. The shop, pub and restaurant are 1½ miles from Swallow Barn near Llanwrtyd Wells.
