Wonderful Whitby has so many things to see and do and there are 3 miles of golden sands literally a couple of minutes’ stroll away. The local tour bus is an excellent way of visiting some of Whitby’s highlights including the stunning Whitby Abbey and St. Mary’s Church positioned on the cliff top where you can enjoy spectacular views over Whitby and out to sea. Take a boat trip in search of minke whales, seals and dolphins or enjoy one of the many fishing trips. Whitby plays host to an abundance of festivals and events all year round including the spectacular bi-annual Goth weekends, Steampunk Festivals, Regatta, a Folk Week and many more. The River Esk flows through the town and out to sea making Whitby a town of two cliffs joined by the ancient swing bridge. Head over to the East Cliff and delight in the cobbled back streets and old yards, or attempt the 199 steps up to the abbey. Alternatively, enjoy the West Cliff with its delis and miles of golden sands. You will find plenty of traditional pubs serving homemade food and offering live music. Visit the tea rooms and coffee shops as well as restaurants offering cuisine from around the world.
There are so many walking routes and cycle paths in the area including the Cleveland Way which snakes across the top of the cliffs and down into hidden bays such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes where smugglers and pirates would frequent. Head inland on board the ‘Harry Potter Express’ as is steams deep into the North York Moors National Park visiting villages such as Goathland and Grosmont. The traditional seaside town of Scarborough
is just along the coast and boasts an open air theatre showing many international stars and acts throughout the summer, a waterpark and two long bays linked by a fantastic promenade. Further afield, there are many ancient abbeys and ruins to explore. The walled city of York is very popular with attractions including the National Railway Museum, cobbled streets and a multitude of shops, bars and restaurants to enjoy, as is a visit to the cathedral city of Durham
