The Raffles Hotel Singapore was designated as a National Monument by the Singapore government in 1987. The restored hotel features extensive gardens and courtyards and an array of facilities. Across the street is Chijmes, a girls' school which was restored and converted into a national heritage site and now houses art galleries, restaurants and bars. Elegant guestrooms and suites are situated in one of four wings and feature all modern comforts. Raffles boasts a varied dining selection including Doc Cheng's which blends Oriental styles with overtones of western modernism in both decor and cuisine, the Empire Cafe which specialises in traditional local cuisine and the Long Bar Steakhouse which combines steakhouse dining with the nostalgia and simple honest flavours of early plantation fare. In addition the Raffles Amrita Spa offers relaxing and pampering treatments and features a gymnasium.
